Black Tuesday

In addition to Red Friday, we now declare Blue Monday, Black Tuesday, and unofficially, Wednesday and Thursday is 'your choice', but 3 showed up Wednesday in Pink! Some of the guys 'balked' at pink on Wednesday, but the girls will probably wear pink. Carolyn said she was wearing purple on Thursday, so I did too. I don't know if it will be officially Purple Thursday, but again, it's your choice! You know Mondays has always been called Blue Monday. I think this originated way back when our mother's always washed on Mondays, and it was not that much fun, especially in the cold wintertime. I remember that old "Poppin' Johnny'' washing machine that had to be cranked like a motorcycle. It had a gasoline engine and it made that popping sound all the time it was going. Mother had to build a fire under the old black washpot, and then carry water in buckets and pour into the old pot. (It's the same old pot she made lye soap in). Anyway when the water got hot, then she had to carry it over to the washer. She had 2 big tubs for rinse water which she carried buckets of water and poured into them. Like I said, it was a fun day. The kids helped pull the clothes through the old wringer and into the rinse tubs. Then we helped hang them on the clothes lines. This was for a family of 10!! Also, the sheets were washed every Monday. In the evenings, providing it hadn't rained or snowed and froze the clothes to the lines, we gathered them all in and folded and put away. Then all the beds had to be made up, and we didn't have wash and wear clothes. Everything had to be ironed, which was done on Tuesdays. I can't think of a better reason to call Tuesdays Black Tuesdays, but that is not why we started calling it Black Tuesdays. I believe it started with 2008 Election Day!! I believe Dave mentioned wearing black on Tuesdays, and so it is!! The picture above is Carolyn and Pete in their Tuesday black suits. We all have a good time and enjoy things that liven up the exercise routines at the "Wilderness Center", ha!

There's only one person there (Joe) who is older'n me, and we both came from a ranching background. We remember when we didn't have electricity, and I know Joe remembers the hard work, and hardships. We were all 'pore' but didn't know it cause everybody was 'pore'. Speaking of age, I'm so old that whenever I eat out, they ask me for money up front!

The snap, crackle and pop you hear in the mornings, is not my Rice Krispies! Sometimes I wake up Grumpy and sometimes I let him sleep!

I'm retired - I was tired yesterday and I'm tired again today! I was at the Beauty Shop 2 hours, and that was only for the estimate! We married for better or for worse - he couldn't do better and I couldn't do worse! The secret of staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly and lie about your age.

Birds of a feather flock together - and then crap on your car!

The Clown of "Wilderness"

Here's the 'shortest' lawyer of the "Wilderness" center. Wilderness, as my husband calls it, is more formally known as the Wellness Center! This clown, Ebb, comes in on his knees, trying to sneak in and scare me - he scares me all right, ha! I tell him not to let aging get him down, as it's too hard to get back up. He will ring the bell at the counter, when he comes in and also when he leaves. He evidently eats a big bowl of 'smarty pants' for breakfast, cause he comes in "looking for a [cause]". He examines my attire, to see if I match, even down to my socks, and then gives his approval. He wants the TV on so he can see what the weather man says, but he forgets that it's not on, sometimes, til after he's been there awhile; then he says he wonders what the weather's gonna' do. Sometimes I ignore him and I'll look back and he's standing with his hands on his hips, as if to say, "Well, I guess she's not gonna' turn it on". He's a laugh a minute, and keeps all of us laughing. I have wished I had the tape recorder on sometimes. He and Bob really can exchange some funny things. I tell him my imaginary friends think he has a serious mental problem, ha! I also tell him that he should come with a 'warning label'! He tells me that if things get better with age, then he's approaching 'perfect'! Absolutely no humility! He tells me he can "Rise and Shine" but not both at the same time! Well, you get the idea.........he's a 'clown' and we love him.
Ebb is the City Attorney for our county, and has been in business many years. He was the president of the International Lion's Clubs and has traveled the world over, with the Lion's Club conventions. Ebb is also active in the First Baptist Church, and many civic organizations, and still finds time to go to the sports activities. He has a beautiful wife who is very supportive and loves to drive to their destinations while Ebb reads. I'm sure he has many attributes that he hasn't told us about, but you get the idea!

Janet and Anita, newest red shirts

Introducing Janet and Anita, some of our 'newer' 'early birds'. We welcome them to our group. I haven't known them long, so don't have a lot to write about, except, I believe they both work at the school, which is a very good thing for the children. It is good to know they are in such good hands! We are happy to have them at the Wellness Center. We enjoy them very much.

I will include some "funnies". Only thing is, they are so close to the truth, that it isn't 'funny', but o well, as my husband likes to say, "I'm use to hardships".

I was a bear on Wall Street, and that's how I wound up!
Don't forget to turn your clock back. I'm turning mine back to when I was 20!
I'm getting so old that my friends in heaven will think I didn't make it!
As you get older, your secrets are safe with your friends, because they can't remember them either!
She says, "O gawd, I'm convinced my mind is almost gone". He says, "I'm not surprised - you've been giving me a piece of it every day for 20 years".
Don't let aging get you down; it's too hard to get back up............

If you need help, ask God --- if you don't, thank God!

Train Man

This is Jimmy. He is one of our more recent members, who is also Joe, our patriarch's, son. Jimmy's wife, Peggy, has urged him to join her at the Wellness Center for quite some time, and he finally did. Now he comes a lot more often than Peggy! We are quite proud of Jimmy and his weight loss.
He walks 2 miles every morning even before he comes to Wellness, where he uses all the other equipment. He is a train engineer by profession. We are very proud of Jimmy and his accomplishments, and his faithfulness in being one of our 'early birds'.

How's this for a political platform? Don't like through your teeth.....

I tried paying my taxes with a smile, but they wanted money!

If you must burn our flag - wrap yourself in it first.

Sign on back of Septic Tank Truck: Caution, this truck is full of Political Promises........

The best way to get back on your feet - miss a car payment............

Don't sleep with a drip --- call your plumber. (maybe Joe the Plumber?)ha

Carolyn's Beauty Shop

These are the "red shirts" that were suppose to go with the introduction of these two 'beauties'! Janie is a customer that comes at about the same time as I do, and we have a good time 'cuttin' up. Carolyn performs miracles on Janie too, and Janie gets compliments from everyone, and is asked "who fixes your hair, it's beautiful?!" So Janie and I are 'walking advertisements' for Carolyn's Beauty Shop.

Carolyn's Beauty Shop

Introducing Janie, the Pshaw gal, and Carolyn, the hairdresser who is a known magician! She can make hair where there IS no hair! She can roll hair where there is NO hair! Carolyn does know hair! I go to see her every Friday morning, and when I go back the next Friday, it appears she has already done it!! She can put those "rats" in like nobody else, and the hair doesn't dare move all week! We nicknamed her the Magician! She is a beautiful gal herself and she is a faithful member of the EM (early morning) Wellness group. Sometimes she is still half asleep, and I tell her to "rise and shine", and she says, "I can rise and shine, but not at the same time"!!

The TV is on at Wellness, and if not for politics, I don't think they would have any news at all. The reason they hold elections in November, is that is the best time to pick a "turkey"! Voting is like choosing your favorite mosquito, out of a swarm! How can you tell if a politician is lying? See if his mouth is open! I don't like political jokes; too many of them get elected! Washington, DC - The DC stands for darkness and confusion. A politician has to be able to see both sides of an issue, so he can get around it! Soon there'll be nothing but honest politicians - there's nothing left to steal!

Save, you never know when your money will be valuable again!

O'Blackie

I have to introduce you to my new kitten. She is so unusual, in that she has a broad black nose and a black chin. She has a sister, but she's shy and won't let me close enough to capture her features. She has a yellow/orange stripe on her forehead and it goes down her back, reminding me of a skunk; thus her name: Peppe LePeu (O'Peppe) for short. We lost our beautiful cat that we'd had about 3 years, and loved very much, so we decided to try again, and hopefully these won't meet the same fate as our other cat. She was shot.......
